Site news (we're famous! ...kinda) + review log

Its been a month since we started counting (and a little over a month since we started this whole thing), and thanks to you guys we have 7350 hits for the first month - and if you include yesterday's 607 hits (310 visitors, of which 138 are returning visitors), its nearly 8000 for a month which isn't shabby at all. Thanks again to you guys who've been reading.

I've not updated the polls in a while because I wanted to squeeze the most votes out of this one, as I've forwarded it to the Switchfoot guys, just in case they're curious about what we think the next single should be. Just in case. But I'll be putting up a new poll question tomorrow.

The Paste Magazine reviewer Rachael left us a comment and has blogged about what I had to say regarding her review, including a shoutout to some of you "SwitchFeeders" regarding... well, go over and check it out. And leave some love. Her blog gave me a good laugh today - me and a friend read it together which made it a funnier (wait, is that a word?) experience. Don't miss the "Lady in the Water" review, its sorta priceless.

So I was a bit bored and thought I'd google "switchfeed". And who would've thought!? [...party at my place?] Oh, and, while you're there, you might wanna leave us a rating.

Here are some reviews I'll just spit out and not say anything about, since my eyes are desperate to shut:

About.com

almenconi.com

Tower Records

ctnow.com

Cross Rhythms

The Phantom Toolbooth

Pop Syndicate

mixonline.com

drivenfaroff.com

Have a switchalicious day.

First of all, congrats on the publicity! That's pretty cool.

Second-of-ly, I've come to the conclusion that this record has, for the most part, been very misunderstood by the media. Case in point: The About.com review proclaims that Switchfoot takes no risks, then lists the tracks "Dirty Second Hands" and "4:12" among the record's CONS. Go figure.

Then you've got the drivenfaroff.com, along with others, who criticize Switchfoot for not producing the same sweeping anthems of DYTM.

And finally, you've got those who don't understand how the band reconciles their mainstream success with their Christian roots, and come out saying that Switchfoot is "stradling the fence" or somehow unsure about where they stand.

    *takes a deep breath*

In the end it means very little, as it's just people blowing smoke, but it's a little disheartening to see the number of people who don't "get it" or pass judgment on the band's motivations.

At the same time, though, it makes the reviews from those who DO understand all the more rewarding :-) .

Hi theTRu, I posted the link without reading the review - which I've never done before - because I didn't have enough time to read them all, so I saved yours for later. But before I could get back to it, someone told me the review was very informal, so I thought, maybe thats an objection, and in any case I shouldn't be putting up stuff that I haven't read, so I took it down. But I will give it a read later tonight put it back up - I'm sorry, didn't mean to hurt your feelings :) Thanks for reviewing the album! And thanks for the kind words about the site. The CMCentral review - if I remember correctly - was great. peace,

    phil
