switchTattoos: Do you match up?

Disclaimer: (in response to a comment below) This post is written with tongue firmly in cheek.

What justifies the statement "I love (insert band name)"? Is it how many concerts you go to? How many "rare" songs you have stashed on your iTunes playlist? Maybe how many albums or merch you own? Maybe it's not a possession, but a story. A story of survival, renewed hope or inspiration - maybe that cuts it? Devotion, loyalty, dedication.. fandom? obsession? infatuation? Nah.. close, but not quite. You don't really really love a band until you take them with you to the grave. Sorry to break this to you but it seems like you have fallen short, my dear friend. Only a select few of us have that honor. Too bad Phil, you don't fall in that category either. ;) So here you have pictures of what our families may call insanity, but we call the epitome of radness:

Vicky (myself)

Tiffany (upper) and friend (lower)

Erica

Bridget

sarahjane (both the "beautiful letdown" one and the "learning to breathe" one - on either of her wrists.)

I do "really really" love this band and i don't think i have to get a tattoo to prove that. But maybe you're just saying that the ones who do get the tattoos do indeed really really love SF.

Those are sweet tatts though! I adore TSPTS.

^haha I'm sure she was joking. It's one of those "We completely believe in the saying 'he who dies with the most toys wins'" type of thing.

hey my tat is the second one and i love switchfoot and everything, but thats not really why i got it. i got it for the term... for what switchfoot stands for.. which is the surfing term which actually means to ride the board differently and not go with the status quo.. it also encourages me to be true to my talent just as switchfoot was b/c who knows what lives i could change if im true to the talents God gave me.

Sweet tattos! My favorite one is "nothing in this world can fail me now.." Super sweet! :)

You don't need to get a tatoo to prove that you are a major Switchfoot fan. But those who do, thats fine. I don't feel the need to get a tatto and I probably never wil, but it's not a HAVE TO just because a few people are getting switchfoot stuff tattooed.

I also wanted to add...I LOVE Switchfoot....but that is not why I got the 2 I have at all. I went through something that no one should go through during the first couple of years of my high school life and it was hard. Switchfoot's music was there for me when no one and nothing else could have been. I am proud of who I am today, but I don't want to forget who I was or what I went through to get here. I worked really hard and because of that I am making my dreams come true every day.

    I have 3 other non-switchfoot-related tattoos...so it's not the only brand on my body....hahaha

here's what I wrote on Vicky's blog, but it explains my reasoning for my tatts:

And whats crazy is that a lot of people who have ever seen my tattoo thinks it was a mistake, or my so called obession, me being a childish groupie, and that Ill regret it later in life. Its funny how they seriously do not know what the music has done for me. Its sad, really. I wouldnt put a permanent mark on my body becuase I think "Oh my goodness, Tim has the most awesome hair," or "They are so hot!" or something dumb like that. It really does sum up a part of my life that had impacted me so much that the only thing that gave me hope was 5 guys playing honest music that I could relate to. So each of those stars represent 5 people who have no idea who I am, but have helped me pick up pieces in my life, and the symbol for the awesome music that has helped me so much. I know we all have an amazing story behind our tattoos, and I will never regret getting them. When Im 85 and at my AARP meeting, I'll still smile.

i'm getting a tattoo today, probably. i've been planning on getting a tattoo since i was very young, and the day has finally come. mine will be on my forearm, and say "the shadow proves the sunshine". why? why would i mark myself with the words of a band... not because of the band itself (though i love switchfoot and the guys honestly have changed my life) but because of what the words really mean to me. i've gone through a lot in my life and the sunshine is finally coming through, and i need a constant reminder that the shadow really does prove the sunshine. the phrase is so powerful, and that will never change to me.
