| Interviewing Switchfoot |
I thought I'd share the questions I entered for the iloverock.ca contest where the winner gets to interview Switchfoot.
1. The intricate cover art has been termed "neo-psychedelic". Some reviews also throw in the "psychedelic" word to describe the music - where did that influence come from? Especially in "Dirty Second Hands" and "Circles" - was it a conscious thing on your part?
2. Maybe invited to do so by your pop sensibilities and the major-label contract, some critics have pointed out the irony of singing against the corporate machine even though that's the very thing you feed off of. Where do you find the balance between art, commerce and authenticity?
3. For how many more years do you look forward to making music? I guess you can't give a number, but I mean when you guys think of the future, what do you see? Any side projects, maybe?
4. As a band known to break down walls between you and fans, do you find that hard to do now that you're popular? When too many people want a piece of you, and some of them probably for the wrong reasons, how do you handle it? Has it forced any compromises?
5. Is the lyric "train the monkeys on my back to fight" a reference to something in particular or just an interesting metaphor? So, what is the one question you'd ask Switchfoot if you had the opportunity to interview them? (okay, you're free to comment with more than one question.) Psst! You know, I might get a chance to interview Switchfoot (apart from the contest), so you guys' questions could come in handy.Labels: miscellaneous. |

Those are great questions. I like #1.

nice questions. mine were more along the lines of "do you guys fight on the bus?!" needless to say I didn't win ;)

Those are some awesome questions you've got there, Phil. I can't think of any others that are quite as brilliant at the moment, but perhaps I'll think of some in the future. That'd be awesome if you got to interview them. That would pretty much make you famous, and I like being associated with famous people. ;)

Anyone figure out what Switchfoot means in Japanese, I remember reading an interview and Jon was saying that in Japanese it was odd or something and that his reaction was Yikes!, but I dunno if that was what it meant, or if it Was his reaction.

"do you guys fight on the bus?!"
Hey! I think that's a good question! Need to have some light hearted ones in there too!
-
^ ha ha someone asked Tim that...he replied: "Yes, we fight all the time!" *Jon gives an agreeing look* Then Tim said something like "No, we're good, but we know how to push each other's buttons." To which Jon replied "So that's what we do!"
-
hey mariham, I remember you!
@Vicky you're right, there should be a light hearted question in there. that's why, if i get to interview them, i plan to ask tim "what shampoo do you use?" :D
@Jill You're welcome. I wouldn't have linked if you weren't awesome ;)
