Unreleased Music Video: "Happy Is A Yuppie Word"

This is a great, vibey (is that the right word?) music video of "Happy Is A Yuppie Word" that leaked a long long time ago, but is now featured on Switchfootage 2 so I thought I'd share it (put up on YouTube by mpac1801). If my sources are right, they initially planned to release this as the lead single and shot the video for it, but the record company decided the song wouldn't sell, so they released "Stars" instead and used the same video concept for it. Sad. I like this one better than the "Stars" video, no doubt.

Wow this really should have been the first single off nothing is sound. This video is amazing. Its just so dark and mysterious.

I've always maintained that, Joel. I think NIS would've received much more appreciation had this video & song been released. "Stars" and WAOT were the poppiest, and arguably among the weaker songs on the album. Not the recipe for rock cred. And HIAYW was the best representation of the rest of the album. It took me a long while to get over the fact that this video never hit the streets - it's totally worthy of it.

I like “Happy is to Word yuppie” is “spiritual”.
and it seemed as if when sings they gave a shout of freedom against the “machine”
    and JON seems but “released”

I agree with you phil & joel about how this should've been the first single, but for some reason i like the stars video better. maybe it's because i have some subconscious idea that music videos should be more fast-paced and energetic...? not that that's necessarily true.

They shouldve released this and Lonely Nation as the singles, would've been a 1-2 punch on the industry...

This and Shadow Proves the Sunshine should've been singles instead of WAOT.

    Good work once again, Phil!

Now this video concept makes sense. Stars might have done better, but the video concept totally doesn't fit that song. Oh well, can't change the past.

Dude, this video was really well done... and I love that that song is based off of a Bob Dylan statement (if I recall correctly). Nice find!

Its really sad how the music industry has put switchfoot in a box

Wow, that video blows away the "Stars" video. "Happy is a Yuppie Word" would have made a great single. I still like the song "Stars" a lot - that opening riff is irresistable. But really they should have used an original concept instead of just reusing this one. "Happy is a Yuppie Word", "Lonely Nation", and "Stars" could have made a great trilogy of singles, but instead they chose to release the subpar "We Are One Tonight" as the second single and never got around to releasing a third one. Oh well...at least WAOT has a cool video.

I like HIAYW better songwise, but as far as the music video goes.. I liked the one for Stars more.

The Stars video in my oppinion doesn't have much to do with the song but it's just plain cool.. This one is good but less colorful.
I love this song but as a lead single I think Stars was a good pic. This should of been released sometime though.
    Both are amazing songs.

I saw this video when it leaked about 6 - 7 months back, and I didn't care that much for it back then either.

Yea I agree I like the song better, but the underwater theme worked a little better for Stars. Lonely Nation and HIAYW would have been great singles. Love this vid though.
