MOTW #8: The One AM Radio - 'The Echoing Airports'

Alright, so Phil and I can appreciate this artist more than most anyone else here because he hails from our native land. Well, he was born in Boston, but he's from India, and has family in Mumbai where both Phil and I are from. And not only is he Indian, but he makes some pretty impressive music, which, of course, should be the case for any artist showcased in this section.

The song that I've picked is 'The Echoing Airports' off his newest release, This Too Will Pass. I don't know why, but I enjoy songs about airports. Such was the case with John Mayer's 'Wheel', even though the airport reference was only in one of the verses. But you get my point. And it's not just the idea behind the song, but the instrumentation, the vocals, and the lyrics, all combined that make it one of the more beautiful songs I've heard as of late.

The music itself will remind you of a mix between The Postal Service and Iron & Wine (sort of). It's mellow but it's got just enough beats/samples to remind you of Ben Gibbard's electronic foray. The song is Hrishikesh Hirway's (the singer) reflection of past relationships and all that encompasses that word. The emotions, the fights, the makeups, and all that goes into making a relationship just that:

I go to airports wait by the gates for arriving flights,
I go to airports to see the lovers reunite...

He obviously regrets the love he's let pass through his hands and so sits at airports and hopes for a reunion some time in the future. Every aspect of the song is perfect, as far as I'm concerned, and I can't help but listen to it over and over. Alright, I'm not going to build this up anymore. I'm just going to post the song and let you reach your own conclusions. Enjoy!

Lol arpit...aside from also loving the Indian-ness ( I also hail from that part of the world)...its a really nice song. I enjoyed it a lot, and the verse that you quoted is...I don't know how to explain it exactly, but its nice ( really bad explanation, but it'll have to do)
and I don't know if you got the message I left you on the Switchboard...but I had a suggestion for an MOTW...Flogging Molly...they're very celtic-y...and they like to sing about drinking...I know its not really the style of music you've shared before, but its different...and I like it
but anyways...thanks for this one, I enjoyed it

@ Sarah - Haha, I am a guy, I got my name from my parents (it means 'set apart' :p), and I'm glad you've enjoyed Priscilla Ahn and The One AM Radio - I've seen both in concert over the past couple weeks, and was totally blown away! And lol, it's mp3 of the week, but you were close enough! :)

@ Mukta - Didn't know you were from there. Great to hear! And I haven't actually heard anything by Flogging Molly, but the music sounds like that of Dropkick Murphys (whom I adore!). I'll give em a listen!

@ Phil - Ah overthinking it :p And the music shall be yours tonight!

    hey phil...
So yeah The Cinci Switchfoot concert on Friday was simply amazing. I had some amazing pictures. I got a video of Yesterdays...and of Sorrow...and American Dreams...I had pictures of a towel on Chad's head, a pick going down Tim's shirt. I was three people back from the stage right in front of Tim. However, Saturday morning I woke up, grabbed up my camera to see what how all of the pictures turned out to find my memory card completely blank. All of my pictures are gone. I have no clue what happened. And honestly despite how sad I am for loosing the switchfoot stuff on it. I lost my ballet performance stuff....and other things that I've done without saving them to the computer.
It's was a sad day...and I'm super sorry that I can't share these moments. Looks like I'll HAVE to go to another Switchfoot concert!!! And hopefully get closer, and not have my camera randomly delete every picture on my camera. And thankfully my friend Johannah who went with me will be able to print off her pictures for me...but she didn't have as good of timing as I...

    Phil,
This is pretty good, I really enjoyed it. To me, sounds kinda like Sufjan Stevens meets The Postal Service - if that's possible...ha. Either way, if you use Sufjan and Ben Gibbard to describe your music, you're doing very well.
