| Tagline contest, rad pictures, and a rare treat. |
I was planning to finish the Vancouver concert review for today's posting (buoyed by repeated requests to finish it), but something came up so I had to save that for later, hopefully tomorrow. Sorry. That, and finishing the "Revenge" post, are on the top of my mind, I assure you. :) On to today's not-so-time-consuming post...
So I was thinking, why doesn't switchFeed have a tagline? There was no good reason why. So I came up with "Feeding you tHE wRONG fOOT", as a play on "Switchfoot" being the name for a surfing move executed on your weaker/wrong side, further underlined by the wrong capslock-ing. But this needn't be final. Got a great idea for a tagline? Try me. Leave your tagline in the comment section, and if we love it, we'll make it ours, and you get all the bragging rights. ;) Tip: besides being descriptive, it has to be catchy. Thank you.
Here are two top picks from my selective collection of Switchfoot images... each with an amazing quote by Jon. I picked this up from different places that I stumbled by (but don't remember where) and saved it onto my computer, so if you made either of these, please let me know so I can credit you!

Many Switchfoot fans are known to share their love for another band: MuteMath. They've toured with Switchfoot and are friends with the guys, so that's my excuse for allowing myself to post about this rare treat I found somewhere a while back that can't be missed by anyone who likes worship music to any degree. Paul Meany and his boys (except Roy) used to lead worship at their church in Louisiana, and they put together a live CD of an evening back in '05. Then MuteMath happened, and Katrina happened, which meant this CD got shelved indefinitely. It's arguably the best worship album I've ever heard - imagine the creative monster that is MuteMath, rocking an otherwise-generic genre. (I don't usually listen to worship music, but I LOVED this.) Note: This band technically isn't MuteMath, but "Elevator music". Download it here, I would think it's legal since it's not available for sale to the public.
The church doesn't have the CD on their website, but I hear they sell it at their bookstore for 13 dollars, so if you feel like you owe them, you could send them a donation. They're still doing Katrina relief so I'm sure your money will be for a good cause.
Victory Fellowship Church 5708 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA 70003 (504) 733-5005 www.victoryfellowship.net
I'm sorry that wasn't so Switchfoot-related, nor is everyone here religious, but it was very exciting for me when I first heard it, and many of you love MuteMath too, so I thought I had to share it with you guys.
That's it for today, friends.

Wow, that second photo is SO worth swooning over, he-he. :D
Thanks for the MuteMath links, Phil. I listen to "worship music" too (aha! Isn't that like labelling? ;D) sometimes. I reckon I have some Rebecca St. James on my media library.
I'd say if a certain kind of music makes you feel good, go for it. Religious or not.
Thanks for the post, Phil!
-
@G, is that relatively-unimportant quote on the top-right visible, amidst all the radiating hotness? ;D
i'm sorry if "worship music" sounded like labelling, it wasn't my intention - it's a wellknown genre, so that's all i was referring to. i grew up on worship music, but nowadays the closest i come to it is Jars of Clay, who aren't really praise&worship anyway. but i'm not against it (though i have my issues/doubts with the commercial aspect of it) - i just think, speaking in general, the quality of worship music is apalling - especially when that's the one genre, if any, that should be bursting at the seams with creativity - i mean, isn't God the master creator?
Thanks for reading, G!
-
My gosh, Phil! You just had to point out that radiating hotness, didn't you? As if I'm not dying here already. ;D
Just a heads up that I'm SO saving that. :D
To quote you: "i just think, speaking in general, the quality of worship music is apalling - especially when that's the one genre, if any, that should be bursting at the seams with creativity - i mean, isn't God the master creator?"
-- powerful and thought-provoking statement, Phil. Certainly worth mulling over. Any songwriters out there?
-
Oh, the bottom picture is taken by our very own Andy Barron. Well, not OUR very own...And that's one of my favorite quotes. I've always wondered who did that graphic.
I'm also pretty positive that the top graphic was done by either Aimee-Paige or Annissa of the Fallout, but I can't remember. It looks very familiar.
-
Im ust agree with g and phill, the second one is amazing, its a really nice perspective I think. And the quote isn't bad either, its actually really nice. What can you say? He's got an amazingly insightful mind AND radiating hotness...in my book that = radzilla :D
And Phil, everytime I read your posts, you're always giving me something new to think about, they've just got so much depth to them. So, I've said it before, but I'll say it again: you're doing an amazing job with this! I've quickly become addicted to this site...everyday, it's hmmm I need to do some work...but FIRST I think I'll go check out Switchfeed :D Makes my day!
-
sorry, Phil with one l...not 2
-
In light of what G said about reading Switchfeed every morning, I propose:
Switchfeed: better than your morning coffee :p
Downloading the file now - I'll post on it later. Oh, and if you're looking for some good worship music that'll blow you out of the water, check out Brian & Jenn Johnson, Anthony Skinner, Hillsong United (of course), Misty Edwards, and Jason Upton (by far the most amazing worship leader I've come across). Tell me what you think about them if you get a chance to check them out!
-
Phil, I was waiting for you to mention Mute Math! You were the one who caused this sudden obession that I have for them! :D All because you mailed me that cd! And I love you for that!
I believe that its ok for you to mention them here because after all we are a switchfoot family and there comes a time when our cd players and ipods literally explode because we listen to Switchfoot so much so why not listen to another band every one in awhile? A band like MUTE MATH!!!
Worship music...I really like your opinion on worship music. The only worship music that I am into is Hillsong. Even though lately they have kind of been slacking (if that's even the term) on creativity , they have come up with the most beautiful worship songs in the world! But stuff like Chris Tomlin, Steven Curtis Chapman, and others...that kind of bores me. So...thats all I have to say on this post.
Oh and the pictures are amazing! My favorite one would have to be the second one.
peace!
-
"Switchfeed: better than your morning coffee" Ha ha I like that! Yours is great too, Phil. Interesting and creative!
I'm downloading the music right now and really excited about it. I'm definitely a Mute Math lover since they toured with SF so this CD should may be stuck in my 'recently played' list for days or weeks.
-
"so much so why not listen to another band every one in awhile? A band like MUTE MATH!!!"
one=edit=once
-
#*$%@!^ (I don't even know what that's supposed to say, but) that worship album is so freakin' amazing... I wanna shout out how freakin' amazing it is! I wanna dance!!!
Oh, and just wanted to make sure you guys knew about Earthsuit... someone's gotta know about em!
-
"Switchfeed: for the fams, by the fams."
"switchfeed: because amazing bands deserve attention too."
hahaha. ok, so that second one was lame. or at least not optimally-phrased. i could probably come up with more if i thought. right now i'm a bit brain-dead. 3 tests and a paper will do that to ya.

Switchfeed: Dance, Dance Revolution Ain't Got Nothing On Us
Switchfeed: Learning To Breathe, Adding To The Noise (I actually like that one! :p)
Switchfeed: Easier Than Love For Sure!
Switchfeed: Better Than The Poparazzi
Switchfeed: Goes Down Easier Than A Mocha Frappaccino
Switchfeed: You Don't Have To Wait To Hear The Fat Lady Sing
Switchfeed: There Must Be A God, Cuz This Page Rocks! (yeah, I don't know :p)
Switchfeed: You Won't Be A Loser When You're Here* (*Our Lawyer Told Us We Can't Guarantee That)
Switchfeed: Call Me Happy And Label Me A Yuppy!
Switchfeed: It's Power Pop, Not Emo!
Switchfeed: Slogans Are So Last Year...
And my personal favorite:
Switchfeed: If You Don't Know Who Phil Is, Get Outta Here! :p
Haha... yeah I might've gone a little overboard ;)
-
Heh, don't worry about it Phil, I keep meaning to get around to my review of Oh! Gravity. and it hasn't really been happening either.
About the slogans:
I like the one you have now, but the capitalization thing kind of bothers me, and is just a little corny.
"For the fams, by the fams" would work well for SwitchFams. The "Power pop, not emo" one is not good. Jon has been explicit about his loathing for genre labels, so to exchange one for another is just as insulting.
My personal bad attempt: "If we're adding to the noise, turn off this site."
-
Switchfeed: Our daily dose of vitamin SF.
heh.
umm...or
Switchfeed: We're beyond obsession.
okay, that last one was weird.
=)
-
Haha Arpit I really enjoyed the coffee idea :D It made me smile! That one's my pick, but here's one that I thought up...it's a bit long but...
Switchfeed: Where everyone’s Beautifully Human; Nothing is a Letdown; Gravity keeps us together; and the simple act of Learning is Legendary
I know it's not exactly catchy, but I liked the concept, I'm just not sure that I've done my idea proper justice...and if you haven't already noticed, the names of the albums are in the lines
I didn't put a lot of thought into this or anything ... *cough* :D
-
and Phil...after your post this morning, I checked out MuteMath's myspace, and I want to thank you for introducing me to a band that I know I'm really really going to like :D
-
haha, arpit, those were hillarious! (kinda).
Switchfeed: You Don't Have To Wait To Hear The Fat Lady Sing
huh?!?!
I especially liked the one about phil. :o)
-
"i just think, speaking in general, the quality of worship music is apalling - especially when that's the one genre, if any, that should be bursting at the seams with creativity - i mean, isn't God the master creator?"...
um, Phil, are we the same person or something? Because that's exactly how I feel.
The Mute Math (or elevator music, or whatever it is) album is pretty good. Very good in comparison to most "worship" music. Thanks for putting it up!
Oh, and I've been waiting for your "Revenge" post for an eternity (at least... probably longer than that), so I certainly hope you post it soon.
I like Arpit's slogans; they're pretty funny. I couldn't think of any of my own. I'm bad at things like that. Oh well...
-
@ Mukta: lol thanks - I tried to do something similar as you with the song titles, but wanted to keep it short :p
@ Jill: haha - yeah, all of those came out of my time of semi-boredom... if only I could harness such creativity!
@ Heather: - heh, you're thinking too much :p
-
thanks for the kind words, folks!
glad you guys liked elevator music :)
@arpit, i love earthsuit! i have both their albums. and..."a little overboard?" waaay overboard, my friend, but HILARIOUS. haha your post made my day. the best one was "slogans are so last year..." lol.
@gellie, "for the fams, by the fams" is great, but we're saving it for switchfams.com
@Ro-Jo, you're right, the capitalization thing does sound corny... i had a feeling about that. and i'm sure arpit was joking about the "not emo, but powerpop". "if we're adding to the noise, turn off this blog!" is great but i've seen already being used by blog run by an SF fan, so i'll go for something more original.
@mukta, haha thats too long but you get an A for effort ;)
@jill, yeah, maybe we're the same person and you're just me posting with another name :p i'll hopefully finish the "revenge" post this weekend... i've been waiting to find the inspiration, but i think i'll have to get started and just hope the inspiration follows.
peace out ya'll.
-
haha SCORE...my first 'A' of the year, thank you Phil....
-
^hahah..
@Sobe "Daily servings of vitamin SF." is a good one. i'm considering it.
thanks to all you guys for your entries.
-
Heh - glad you enjoyed it man... yeah, both their albums are freakin' awesome! Btw, you listen to Cold War Kids at all? (yeah that came out of nowhere!)
-
AM - Switchfeed: Better Than The Poparazzi
What?! ;D
Mm I downloaded that album awhile back. I love it. ^.^
-
lol pop.. good to see you're around.
-
damn, that album is good.
-
"'switchfeed: because amazing bands deserve attention too.'"
amazing!, but it might be a little too abrasive to have as the "official" slogan here
and just to add to the mix a little bit:
"Switchfeed: fEED the fOOT"
"Switchfeed: :toofhctiwS"
"Switchfeed: take a left at the interweb and a right at Starbucks" lol SO BAD!!
"Switchfeed: gravity's met its match."
"Switchfeed: we're not a website, we're just an illusion! hahahaha!"
"Switchfeed: fried foot"
"Switchfeed: toasted foot"
"Switchfeed: gimme yo' password"
"Switchfeed: the foot that loses wins."
"Switchfeed: we've got mail AND candy."
well, that was certainly entertaining!
-
Switchfeed: No, we don't switch your feed.
-
^lol, Rose.
@Phil sweet, mine is worthy! haha.
-
@rose...I like I like....maybe you could do a little addition, go all the way, and make it:
Switchfeed: No, we don't switch your feed, we feed your switch...
okay, so lame I know, but I had to try :D
-
-
HAHA, Mutka. That made me smile.
-
so how's this one...
switchFeed: Where it's healthy to overeat.
:D
-
"Where overeating is healthy."
I think I like it. What say ye?
-
hey, would anyone mind posting the Elevator Music album onto another upload site? cos it seems the f-forge site have been taken over... as the link now directs to somewhere completely different! thanks
-
^ I second that. Please anyone?
