New unreleased song: "Moon Is A Magnet"

One of our readers, Krista, sent me an email that began with, "I was at jon's little coffeehouse performance that happened after the show in ottawa..." Those kind of emails are always good, so here's a previously-unheard lyrical gem from Jon called "Moon Is A Magnet", which she put up on YouTube for switchFeed. This song was in the initial pool of songs for "Oh! Gravity." (it could be seen on the list displayed in one of the podcasts). Thanks for sharing, Krista, this is great!

Here are the lyrics, as best as I could decipher them:
the moon is a magnet
everyone's at it
everyone's had it

love is a sadness
love is a madness
we are the addicts

what are we if we're not in love?
what are we if we're not in love?

these are the cages
a kiss is contagious
it'll betray us all
a kiss'll betray us all

somebody told me
that everyone's phony
somebody's lonely
i hope that you're lonely
i hope that you're only
waiting to phone me

what are we if we're not alone?
what are we if we're not alone?

these are the cages
a kiss is contagious
it'll betray us all
a kiss'll betray us all

the moon is a magnet
everyone's at it
everyone's had it...

(Thanks Rose for the corrections.)

I think that when you said "what are we in modern love" - it should be "what are we if we're not in love" both times. I think that's the chorus.

And after he says "I hope that you're only" it should be "waiting to phone me"

There were a few more that I caught at first listen but these are the biggest ones.

It reminds me of "got me hoping you'd page me right now" - sorry I had to add that.

I have one thing to say...I think it's groovy! It makes me want to go out into the rain with my non-existant guitar, and sing...but that's just me. Thanks for that Krista

    This song is precious.

^^ "It makes me want to go out into the rain with my non-existent guitar, and sing"...

    I second that motion.

Phil, you still haven't posted part 2 of your "shoe-shining" experience in Vancouver. Just curious to know what happened! :)

    Fun song.
I don't think he says 'because,' I think he just says 'it goes' at the beginning. But no biggie either way.
Good job with the lyrics, Phil. More accurate than what I wrote down last night for them.
And Thanks Krista for posting the video online!

I can say with absolute certainty that that song was around during the sessions for The Beautiful Letdown. I didn't know the name for it before, but I have a recording of it that I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to have.

So I take it that Phil (you're the guy running the blog, right?) hasn't heard "The Revolution" yet.

If you have heard it, then you also know that part of it surfaced on one of the exclusive bonus tracks for Nothing is Sound.
