| To watch, or not to watch: that is the question. [update: question answered.] |
(Update on 04/30:) The official word is... it's all good! Yep, the band doesn't mind you viewing this goodness on blip.tv! The uploader Alex Welgraven (who's one of our readers, we find out) continues his well-appreciated notoreity with new uploads: Feet Don't Fail Me Now (mirrorsite) and Switchfootage 2: Making Gravity (mirrorsite). Some have commented that the videos stop working halfway - well, if that's the case, maybe it's best to wait till you can buy them. ;) --
Psst... don't ask me if this is legal or official, but someone with the username "switchfootage" uploaded, well, Switchfootage, on blip.tv. If you're a North American fan and you don't own the DVD... get it, it's worth every last penny, and the band's worthy of every last penny! But if you're across the pond, then you may or may not entertain the temptation to watch this :P - you at least deserve it more, that I know. Either way, this reminds me- I know the pain of not being able to get a hold of Switchfootage and stuff like that when you don't live where they tour, and online shopping is still an alien concept for your parents. Of not getting to see them live. Of feeling left out when people refer to those "inside jokes". (...I lived in India for the first few of my Switchfoot-loving years.) My heart goes out to those fans: this one's for you.

:D Phil you're my hero! I don't have any words right now to say how much I appreciate this... thank you!
p.s. hope you don't get in any problem for this kind gesture. *v*
-
Phil, I officially love you, despite the fact you don't know me! I swear I will buy this as soon as I get the chance! This has totally made my day!
-
Wow, Phil. Thanks so much for this. I don't live overseas, but I do live in the middle of the Canadian Prairies. We too suffer from a lack of Switchfoot. I saw them for the first time in Feb and hope to see them again soon. :) The vid is much appreciated.
Thanks again, Phil.
-
Thank you! I have no idea if I can buy the DVD or not...but if I can I will.
-
I want to get switchfootage. Can you buy stuff from the online store from outside america? (May seem like a dumb question but I have no idea about such things)
I don't believe any stores here in Australia have it.
-
^I think bandfarm.com is the only place us aussies can get the switchfootage DVDs from. Worked for me.
P.S - Im not great with computers either, dont sweat it.
-
^^^Oooh Awesome!!! I thought I couldn't buy stuff off there! That means I could have gotten the Oh EP! oh well...maybe I'll buy Oh! Gravity for someone else and keep the EP hehe. YAY! I can buy SF merch!
You'd think I would have figured this out earlier...
-
-
ha ha phil you are hilarious
-
haha you guys are most welcome!
-
YAY for French! Hearing the lady speaking in French made my day the first time I saw it. I asked Jon why in French, he said it was because they are not professional actors and since they were not talking in the movie, using French was a good way to make it more fashionable. So, French=fashion, who did not know that?
I really like Tim with his scarf in the movie; I think it matches perfectly with the violet hat he wore in the daily foot from austin.

Ok, now I got my words back again! Wow, this is really beautiful, you have no idea how much this kind of things mean to me. “feeling left out when people refer to those "inside jokes".” Definitely, but finally I get to understand some of them Yeah, it’s the first time I ever saw Switchfootage. So after 4 years of waiting, I finally got the chance. This doesn’t mean that now I’m not planning to get the DVD someday. When I get the chance I’ll definitely pay every single penny, cuz I know it worth it and the other DVD’s too. And of course the band is worthy of every last penny, and even more! I wish I could give back to them something more valuable than money, cuz they have given me so much that just can’t never be valued materially. It’s really frustrating that they don’t sell SF CD’s here in my country (Honduras), the only one I bought here was NIS dual disc, and still I don’t even know how I got it, cuz it was the ONLY one left in the store! So, if it’s hard to get the CD’s, you can imagine how it is when it comes to the DVD’s, impossible! I’ve tried to buy stuff at the online store, but there’s no shipping to here. And I have had the opportunities to download SF stuff illegally, but I just can’t do it because of the respect I have to them as a band and as individuals, I’ll be stealing from them and I rather be deaf or something before doing such thing to people I appreciate, care and love. When I saw the guys go dumpster-diving looking for those Christmas cards they sent in the holiday packages, I felt like they were doing it for me, even though I didn’t receive any. It filled me with joy and I felt as thankful as the ones who send their pics back in the LOBH collage. When they let us fams choose some songs for set-list for the shows, I went and voted knowing that the only way to hear them was through the live bootlegs, dreaming and hoping that someday I will be in a front row screaming with all my lungs and having those crazy conversations with Jon upstage and, who knows, maybe even get a chance to play the cowbell, also be able to go to those coffee shop shows and get kicked out and then have to play on the street. Not to mention so many other things. Meanwhile it’s painful and sometimes frustrating. But I just keep on dreaming, hoping, and most of all, praying that someday I will be able to thank personally, face to face, these five wonderful human beings that have changed my life completely with their music and… everything. I know I went a bit off topic and maybe too cheesy, but, I just felt saying all of this. It’s something that I don’t/can’t do that often.
So thank you again Phil!
p.s. Sorry for my grammar mistakes. English is my second language.

what's funny is, i uploaded Switchfootage there. that's my site. to prove it, i will upload Feet Don't Fail Me Now
-
@alex, sweet, i was hoping the uploader would find this page and leave a comment, so i'm glad you did! :) anyway that clears up the question about whether it's official - it's not. which makes me wonder if i should take it down...
@rinni, thanks for sharing all that - i feel you. i hope all those dreams come true...
-
Find this page? I've been reading it for a few months now, I just never comment. Great work on it by the way.
Whether or not I should take it down, I guess I don't know. I doubt anyone would mind. If you watch it, and enjoy it, perhaps you should consider buying it.
-
thanks for understanding us overseas peeps...:D
-
Alrighty...at: http://switchfootage.blip.tv/
Feet Don't Fail Me Now = Uploaded, but not converted into Flash Video format, which means a 154 MB AVI file (XviD video codec). The file will be converted to Flash hopefully within a a few hours
Switchfootage: Uploaded, in the Flash Video Format.
Switchfootage Two: I'm ripping and encoding it from my DVD right now. It'll be uploaded before 4PM central time.
Hope you enjoy these

Thank you both: phil and alex. I managed to purchase "Oh! Gravity." from bandfarm thanks to my firend, Julia, from Gremany. But that cost me 2 weeks of regular walks to bank, countless talks with bank clerks (because everybody there had different opinion about sending checks abroad), and another month of waiting for the package to come from Germany, let alone that I felt guilty of involving Julia in this mess. Anyway, I can't overuse her amazing patience any more and ask her to go through this again so I am really thankful for having possibility to watch Switchfootage. So thank you again!:)

^I totally simpathize with you!!!
the beautiful letdown I got here:D Nothing Is Sound: I had a friend from the states send it to me (took a month) later I found the dual disc at the christian bookstore! :D (God is good!) Coralee happily sent me the Switchfoot Deluxe Package, and that took about a month with paying her back and the money not getting there and the stuff gettting here and me being able to enjoy it! while I was waiting for the package Marty emailed me the album and I was able to listen to it and not feel left out from all the buzz...see how many good Switchfoot boardie friends God has placed in my life? man! and now this! I was able to get Switchfootage 2 (thanks to coralee) and now I get to see Switchfootage! You have no idea what this means to us who go through so much just to get a package, dvd, or just one cd.
This is how much I love Switchfoot and how much they're music affects me.
through my wonderful friends I can now get the Mute Math Live DVD (Luke sent it to me, its getting here but as always it takes a long time) and Im going to be able to get some awesome books by Ted Dekker through Karin.
I love you guys! :D:D:D Thank you for all of those who have helped us overseas people to get wonderful stuff.
One day I'll be able to see Switchfoot live and I think that will be the greatest experience of all! :D
*sigh* I've typed too much. but yeah. that's how I feel about this situation. :D hehe
-
Yea, seems pretty illegal. :D Well, at least now those who don't have great access to SF stuff can now see it. Thanks for posting.
-
Pip thats sweet! You do have wonderful friends!
-
where teh Oh! Gravity. guitar books at yo?
-
I'm so excited to watch these! Too bad the videos don't play all the way for me..But at least they play 2/3 of the way! Thanks a lot Phil for posting and Alex for uploading!
-
I think its cool how they have unmixed, unmastered songs playing in the background. It's pretty rad that we can hear the raw versions of some of the songs we have come to love.
-
this made my day. i was about to cry cause of exams. .well...maybe not cry but get really pissed... but this made me all happy! too bad i can't finish watching it cause it stops. o well thanks!!
the gorilla part=love
-
well, I would but Feet Don't Fail Me Now if I could...I can't find it ANYWHERE.... :( unless someone knows some secret place that I could purchase it :::wink wink:::
-
oh tragity. I was toatly going to buy all three when they came to my city on tour, but they didn't have the first Switchfootage there, so I thought I would order all three later, and now Feet Don't Fail me Now is gone (did anyone ever actually email bandfarm to see if it would be back later??) Oh sadness, why must I be such a procrastinator? haha, oh well.. Maybe I can pick up the other two this summer :D
-
I saw some people are having trouble with the video. First time I played it it stopped but then i changed the format and it played fine, not that I got quite to the end (I clicked full-screen and all the loading disappeared).
-
Hi guys. Sorry about Feet Don't Fail Me Now. I should have it working by morning. I assume that the other vids are working correctly, because I haven't gotten any complaints. Any problems, tell me
Remember, you can always download the entire original file by doing the following.
Select the video you want to play. Right below the video is a few links. Press Share, and in the resulting options, click Permalink. You'll see a AVI or MP4 file that you can save, or a FLV file. Choose the MP4 or AVI file.
If you have the latest XviD, DivX, and Quicktime installed, they'll play fine.

Here's Switchfootage 2 on Google Video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6455524053700490216&hl=en
-
the FDFMN link says it's been removed...
-
Yea it says it was removed, I dunno if that's because you are working on it or what...but the alternate link to the one on google, the audio is weird sounding
-
Here's the deal guys. Basically, I should have tested things out before I made http://switchfootage.blip.tv available to the public.
What I'm doing now is re-encoding the videos and reuploading them. I'll post here or email phil when the videos are ready for viewing.
Sorry about this huge mixup. I'm not sure what went wrong, but somewhere, something did go wrong.
Hopefully this will all be fixed by tomorrow.
-
Thanks for all of your hard work, Alex. It means a lot!
-
yeah, thank you so much Alex! you have no idea how much I appreciate all of this.
-
THANK YOU! I wasn't a Switchfan when FDFMN came out, and I've been so upset because I don't get all the inside jokes about it- I had despaired of ever getting to watch it. But here it is! I watched it on Google Videos, and all I have to say to you is THANK YOU, thank you, THANK YOU! Thank you also for putting Switchfootage out there- I have not had a chance to buy it yet, but hope to soon. (I don't live overseas- I just have no credit card. Lol.) Ayway, FDFMN made my week! (Sorry this is so long...)
-
Ok. Hopefully this is the last time we go through this :)
Here: http://switchfootage.blogspot.com/
That contains almost every video I have, uploaded in two quality formats. One high quality MPEG-4 file, playable on iTunes, Quicktime, or your Video iPod
The other is streaming quality flash video, and this time (so far...so good) it works all the way through. I'll test more thoroughly tomorrow though. I hope you enjoy this stuff. 3 days of encoding, uploading, and cataloging. Whew!
Perhaps Phil could update this post or start a new one. Either way...I hope this news reaches you somehow
-
^thank you again Alex! Your my hero too!
-
Phil and Alex are my heroes...
-
well it seems that Blip TV hath removed the videos
