DOWNLOAD: an entire concert from '03, great quality.

Wow, what a week it has been. I really didn't think the new blog would go live so soon, let alone look so good. I mean, it's on freaking switchfoot.com. So I'm still kinda just... recovering. Thanks for all your lovely comments. Like some of you have suggested, this is one more way in which the band has broken down the walls between them and their fans. One more to the list of ways in which Switchfoot has dared to be different. One more surprise they've sprung on us.

Allow me a few words in addition to Tim's gracious introduction, for starters. First of all, welcome! My name is Phil, and I will be your host at this blog. I started switchFeed.com almost 6 months ago, on November 26th '06 (wow, it feels so much older than that). It all began late one night in an IM chat conference window between Gellie, Rose, Hailey and myself (boardie friends.) I proposed the big idea and said I was gonna do it, even though I had nil webdesign skills, and some of them understandably doubted whether blogging was suited for a procrastinating, "Chem 6A" guy like myself. I didn't believe this idea would achieve, either, as I've had a lot of ideas that remained just that: ideas. But along the way I discovered what made the difference: passion for the subject of my bloggage. Y'see, I loved the Foot, they'd impacted me far more than my precious sleep, that movie, or my other hobbies, and I wanted to give back, be a productive part of the movement. So it only made sense (except to my parents, of course) that I put my life and soul into this project more than any other I'd ever undertaken. But when I started out, if you'd told me I'd be writing on switchfoot.com in 6 months' time, I'd have advised you to see a shrink. So when Tim approached me with the idea, I was a little confused. To cut a long story short, I'm incredibly thankful for this amazing honor, and I hope to serve the Switchfoot community to the best of my abilities, to be a conduit for conversation and fun on this page. And maybe get to know many of you better, in time. Feel free to get involved in our commenting community (we don't bite), especially those who love to lurk. :P I used to give e-cookies to delurkers on switchfeed.com, but now there might be so many of you that it would be hard to keep up with that (so I guess I'm chickening out of that dare, Christina). I don't have any cool-sounding Napoleon Dynamite line to end this little introduction with, but I do have something else to get this new bloggie started with a bang, it's like the cutting-the-cake part of this inaugural post...

An all-but-complete bootleg package (it's missing "24") with 17 tracks (or cake pieces, if you prefer), from the BYX Island Party at the University of Oklahoma, back in 2003. Jon was more talkative on stage back then... there is a sense of nostalgia about this one. It's the same show where they played that cover of The Police's "Spirits In A Material World" that's floating around (this package includes that too). It was the first time they played "Gone" outside of Jon's bedroom (historic moment?), and boy how far the song has come since then. All the songs flow one into the other, so if you've set your iTunes for gapless playback, you can close your eyes and be transported 4 years back in time. "Back when Jon could get more than 2 words in without screaming girls interrupting", to quote Gellie. Enjoy, friends!

Track listing:
1. Intro
2. Meant To Live
3. You Already Take Me There
4. This Is Your Life
5. Learning To Breathe
6. The Loser
7. Spirits In The Material World (The Police cover)
8. Company Car
9. Gone
10. More Than Fine
11. Only Hope
12. Twenty-Four
13. Dare You To Move
14. Ammunition
15. New Way To Be Human
16. Encore break
17. The Beautiful Letdown

(to download, right-click and "save target as...")

PS. 1) I just happened to stumble by this recording a long time ago, and I'm not aware who recorded it, so if it's you, let us know, and we'll credit you. Thanks Dunny for tracks 12, 15, 16, and 17!
PS. 2) Feel free to report any bugs, ask questions, give us feedback, contribute, or suggest ideas to improve the blog, at switchfeed@gmail.com... we'll try our best to reply. Thanks for reading.
PS. 3) Thanks Arpit, Gellie, Cassie, Vicky and everyone else who has helped in ways small or big to bring switchFeed to where it is today.

You Already Take Me There, and The Loser both in the regular set. I don't have a problem with that at all.

You could never tell you didn't have any web design skills. This is hands down, the most feature-filled, cool, maintained blog I've ever come across.

It's good to see your hard work get rewarded. Rock on.

Any way we can download those bootlegs individually? i don't think my connection could handle a file that big.

@Joanna, I'll talk to Mike at switchfootbootlegs.com and get the files hosted individually - then I'll update the post.

@Alex, thanks, I guess not having any webdesign skills was a motivation to venture down that path of discovery, to try.

@Shawna Lea, thanks, welcome to the delurked world.

Awesomeness. It always amazes me how much switchfoot stuff there is out there. Shame it's missing Twenty-Four, that is one of my favourites to hear live recordings of but, there's no real cause to complain here.

Thanks for finding and sharing so much with us Phil (and everyone else involved).

So, today is my day off. What better way to spend it than with a little switchfoot time travel...thanks for posting the concert link!

Awww, I'm a little sad. I went to the show they played at the University of Oklahoma, they have nearly the exact same playlist, and they said that it was the first time they played "Gone" outside Jon's bedroom there too... That's a little sad.

Heh, I had to go back and check to see if it was the same setlist (because it looked almost identical) to see if maybe it was the same recording, just mislabled. :-P

Anyway, keep up the feed. I just joined, and it's amazing guys!

Ok, so, after having downloaded and listened to one of the songs... this is most definitely Switchfoot at the University of Oklahoma. I was actually at this concert, and had the files... and the good news is...

There is more to the concert!

    ...and I have it all!

Let me know if I can put the files up somewhere for you guys.

    The full setlist included:
    (24, which was missing, 5:07)
-New Way to Be Human (3:45)
    -encore break (1:17)
    -Beautiful Letdown (5:31)

I'll be on a plane right after work to St. Louis (I'm from Oklahoma), so it probably won't be ready 'til Monday night (when I get back).

    Phil, I'm proud of you!
I remember the very first time I came across sFeed ( what a find)
I wasn't sure what to do with it, since it wasn't your ususal fan-site/blog...it dared to be different (lame, I know).
I didn't comment for a really long time ( which I now sort of regret) but lurking was fun...lots of fun.
And I think what makes your blog so different is that you always find ways to give us what we want...I don't ever remember reading a post where I was left shaking my head in one of the following:
    1) disgust
    2) anger
    3) feelings of emo ( actually, there were two of these)

so good on you phil and company.
I'm so very glad that this happened, and I see good things in your future!

I uploaded the individual tracks to a new website at blip.tv

    http://switchfootin2003.blip.tv/

They are in order, with Ammunition being the last track, and Intro being the first track. However, they are listed in reverse on the page. Ammunition is the first track you'll see, because it was uploaded last. Hopefully that makes sense.

To download individual songs, click on one of the songs, and a little ways down on the resulting page you'll see a button that says "Share." Click it and a resulting few buttons will pop up, one of which will be "Permalinks." Click that and a right-clickable, save as-able link will appear for you to download the track

    Enjoy!
