Fans interpret "Awakening"

(Update:) It's, uh, the REAL phil, with an edit. "Awakening" has made it to FUSE's "Oven Fresh" vote-to-keep-it-alive thingy... so please get an account (if you don't have one) and vote to keep it on the show! Here. Thankyous.

Many of you took a liking to this fan-made video for Awakening that Josh linked on the switchBoard. Phil thinks we've posted it before, but since I can't remember, I'm going ahead with posting it for all to see. It was new to lots of you anyway:

I found an interview with Jon by a Canadian radio station (uploaded to esnips by a user named anotherjordanmovement). The intro is a bit long, and they insert random song clips throughout, but Jon has some good things to say:

Switchfoot Intervi...

Also, thanks to Job from the boards for linking us to a video about last year's Bro-Am on xtreme life. Some of you may have seen this one before -- I remember people being confused by the fact that they didn't use Switchfoot music in the background. Ha.

And lastly, Natasha (thestarsarecomingout from the boards) informed us of two new events posted in Switchfoot's tour dates section (both in CA). The first is at the Celebrity Surf Jam on June 9th in Huntington Beach, CA. Then on June 12th, the band will be playing at the Apple Store in Santa Monica, CA. Thanks, Natasha.

P.S. Everyone thinks I'm Phil when I post...what's up with that?? :P

    thanks for the post phil! haha just kidding Gellie! Yeah, I really like that fan-made video. I think it does a decent job of interpreting the video. They key part is the tattoo that says "saved by grace." that phrase really makes the song come alive for me.

    did anyone else notice that the makers of that music video spelled "your" wrong? That is so annoying! "What is you're looking for anyway?" that's how they should have spelled it. grrrrrr...

    I just watched that awakening vid. It's actually a remake of what we'd posted a long time ago - they put clips from the official video into it this time.

    @Ro~Jo
    lol, you have a point.

    While that video is pretty good for a fan-video, I don't understand how it's better than the official one (like some people on the official boards said)... If you're gonna compare it to the official, this one doesn't stand a chance IMO - it's cliche, doesn't add anything new to the song (I dislike videos that just act out the lyrics, as if we can't see what the lyrics are already saying), and nothing really happens in it except a guy running from downtown to the beach, and taking his formal shirt off. Not that a whole lot happens in the official one, but the creativity and humor in it makes up for that. this one's just nicely-done youth camp stuff, not official music video material.

    @cookie
    lol..

    @arpit
    you're inching closer and closer to getting fired :p

    @phil - I agree
    Yeah I mean it's a good enough video and all but I like the official one much more, there's extra elements in it, makes for a more interesting watch. When you say "Not that a whole lot happens in the official one", meh. If too much happened it'd probably distract from the song, I think Switchfoot got the balance just about right.

    I agree, Nat. The video did a great job of not distracting from the greatness the song is... instead calling attention to the song's freewheeling riff, with all the dancing going on.

    Best radio interview I've heard yet with Jon. Thanks for posting it.

    I mean come on, it's got guitar hero and ddr....that in itself is enough!
    but yes, I like the official one better.
    Although I do have to say whoever made this one put more thought/work into it compared to other ones I've seen, which just reuse scenes from older music videos. so well done on that count.
    and it's a good thing I know what absconding means now...before it was more like...wait Arpit...you have what disease? ha, but not really.

    ^yeah mukta I agree. By posting it I wasn't saying it's better than the official, but you have to admit it's pretty good for being fan-made.

    and i'm glad you all liked that interview. I debated posting it...

  • At May 10, 2007 11:01:00 PM PDT, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    @mukta - yeah, can't beat Guitar Hero...(I haven't played in like a week! Maybe I'll do that now...)

    It is an excellent fan video I just think it's going a bit far to say it's better than the official.

    Was that interview posted on the boards? Cause I got it a few days before it got posted here...It's so long, I didn't really like the random bits of song...I just skipped through them, partly because I was meant to be doing work when I was listening though.
