"Making Awakening", and exciting future tour news!

If you're a Relient K fan, or if you live in Australia, you're in for a treat...

Nicole posted this on the official boards:
So I talked to Matt Theissen last night. He said it's pretty much already a done deal, they're already getting dates set (indcluding Florida!). They will be co-headlining, but Switchfoot will be playing last every night.

This is going to be amazing.. my 2 favorite bands in the same place!

Switchfoot will be playing at Sydney, Australia on Sept 1st (Thanks LOBH!) ... but there are rumors that they're planning a full-fledged Australian tour. Don't quote me on that, though.

Director Brandon Dickerson posted a documentary on the making of the "Awakening" video. (Thanks *WHOAi_love_switchfoot*!) Check it out:

Looks like someone's posted a bunch of rare Switchfoot tracks on blip.tv for viewing/downloading. (click "Episodes") Also visit his blog for more goodies. Thanks, Alex.

Lastly, two recent reviews of "Oh! Gravity.", one that slaps the unfortunate "radio rock band" label/image on the band (it's not a bad review though), and a blog review that actually gets it.

PS: Has anyone been watching FUSE's "Guilty Pleasures" countdown? Any news of "Awakening" on there?

Best quote from the two reviews:

"Right now, it seems that Switchfoot remains unparalleled in creating deep, introspective, and creative music that is also fun and catchy enough to create a mass appeal."

Didn't Jon say that he can tell more about the reviewer from reading the review than the actual material they are reviewing? Ha. So true! But anyway, I agree with the above quote.

Thanks Nicole for confirming that! I spoke with the drummer and bassist and light tech from Relient K and they said the same thing.
Do you guys think that'll be for the fall tour?

Phil in the sFeed email I got for this post the "PS" didn't show up..just to let you know.
But thanks for enabling the whole post to show up in emails! It's great.

That blip-TV thing is definitely not legal.

That depends I guess. For example, does anyone here have the money to go out and buy every different copy of Nothing Is Sound, because there were 3 CD versions, plus a DualDisc released to different stores, all with different bonus tracks. Most of you could probably only get your hands on one, which means you would miss out on 3 or 4 really great bonus tracks.

I'm blessed enough to be able to have access to those extra CD's, and I felt that it would be important for fans to be able to hear it. I'm not uploading full CD's for people to download. I'm simply allowing for the "bonus" items to be heard among the hardcore fans.

I guess I don't think the band would mind. If they do, I'll certainly remove them.

Wow, I can't believe I have never heard that DYTM alternative, or at least not the full of it. But listening to it renewed my love for the song.

    Thanks Alex.

Oh and thanks Phil..you know, for the blawgin' and what have you. Go study.

    @Ro-Jo
the band is okay with it. as long as we keep it underground, i think it's fine.

also, SF not making the guilty pleasures countdown is a little surprising. i have a feeling the votebox on this page isn't making a difference because it's inside a frame that can't handle cookies. i should prolly take that down and leave just a link.

    Alternate DYTM? Where's that?

  • At May 16, 2007 5:51:00 AM PDT, Anonymous Anonymous said…

@Phil - yeah I don't think the votebox is working, I know I personally am voting a lot on that thing. Would it make any difference to click on the button in the right-hand corner that opens it in a new window? Actually, thinking about it, I can't see why it would. Maybe just post the link.

What a pointless comment that was.

The alternative version of Dare You To Move is on http://switchfootage.blip.tv

It was on the Japanese retail copy of Nothing Is Sound

@phil - yeah, I think posting a link might be helpful, because I've been voting tons, like seriously all the time! :D
How much longer do we have to vote for it anyways?

anyone think this fall-tour might stretch upwards to Canada?

haha christina. I was supposed to be studying - that's why phil was posting. I was supposed to be posting for him, but then i had to study so he came back and posted for me...
um, i'm sorry if that left you confused.
but anyway, NO MORE STUDYING! my last final was yesterday, and now i'm FREE.

...and we're live on sf.com. swallow THAT one.

@gellie: xD I knew someone was studying, I guess I got confused with who. Or perhaps 'gellie' and 'phil' are synonymous in my eyes. ;)

    Anyway, congrats on finishing school.

This is weird. What about that "rare switchfoot track download" part. Is that such a good thing to have on the band's official website? jw

oooh i hope they come to canada.. or at LEAST buffalo! if they come, mukta, mabel and i will most definitely be there, with homemade t-shirts and maybe even baked goods.
@phil & gellie- it's been a while since i've commented, sorry for lurking! but thanks again for the great job you're doing, i'm continually impressed that there's something new every day! it adds some goodness to my schoolday :)
@ alex - thanks a ton for sharing, we appreciate it for sure.
