MOTW #14: Brightwood - Sit Still

Okay, so I'm not gonna talk a whole bunch about this song, because it's very straightforward. Instead, I'm gonna try something new. I'm not sure how it'll turn out, but basically, I'm gonna tell you a little story that the song seems to convey. Bear with me, and if it doesn't turn out all that well, just enjoy the song!

It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and I walk into this party my friend is hosting. I've been to his parties before, and they're always fun. I know what to expect. But as I'm walking in, I get a feeling that today's going to be different.

As I'm catching up with some friends, something catches my eye. No, it's not something; it's someone. It's her. I've seen her before. But there's something different about her today. Her eyes convey a mystery that I haven't noticed before. They're alive with a fire that melts my heart, and there's isn't a thing I can do. My brain has lost and my heart has won the battle of control, the casualty being my ability to form words and sentences.

I realize that I don't even know her name, but all I want in this moment is to be with her: to get lost in those ocean green eyes, and find myself in a world that I can only dream of. My interest in my friends' week is lost, and I'm standing across from her looking right at her, but the words escape me. My body takes a step towards her, then another. I have no control over my motor skills, and I hope to God that my jaw isn't open wide.

As I get closer, her eyes intertwine with mine. I stop two feet from her, and the world disappears around us. A 'hey' breaks the silence, and a smile creeps across both our faces. The only question in my mind is: 'won't you take me and blow me away?'

Well, there ya have it. If you liked it, awesome! If you didn't like it or it was super-cheesy, just let me know - don't be shy. Hey, if that gets any of you to de-lurk, that'll have been worth it. :D

Brightwood - Sit Still

Full lyrics:

You can't sit still,
I watched your movement From the corner catch my eye,
Imagining you here right by my side.

The fire in your eyes is blazing,
And it burns right, right through me,
Little girl you're so amazing, oh...
Don't you know you drive me crazy,
And I'd love to get to know you,
Here I am, so won't you take me and blow me away.

You seem so close,
If I could know your thoughts, if I could read your mind,
Some things are never meant to be defined.

The fire in your eyes is blazing,
And it burns right, right through me,
Little girl you're so amazing, oh...
Don't you know you drive me crazy,
And I'd love to get to know you,
Here I am, so won't you take me and blow me away.

It's now or never...
Here I am,
There you are,
Wish upon a falling star...

The fire in your eyes is blazing,
And it burns right, right through me,
Little girl you're so amazing, oh...
Don't you know you drive me crazy,
And I'd love to get to know you,
Here I am, so won't you take me and blow me away...

    Brightwood = love.

Sit Still and My Reply are my two favorites from this track. I just need to learn how to drive and stop taking pictures of road signs that read "Brightwood".

phil to arpit: "Hi, Kettle. Why so black??"

What was that, Arpit? Did you write the story? It was cute. But, beware, maybe someday she won't be pretty anymore. ;o)

Hey Arpit. I thought the story was kinda cute. The song didn't strike me as much.

My favorite MOTW is still "Twilight" by Future of Forresty. I have it on my iPod and play it on my way to work. "... Is it nostalgia? Is it the sun?"

Wow, I think that's the most amount of comments I've seen on an MOTW this quick. And Phil gets kudos for posting this story in the future :p

@ Vicky - heh, yes, drive without taking pics at the same time (I don't not do it all the time)... and thank you, just felt like being creative

@ Jeanna - thanks for reading and appreciating!

@ Sam - would love to hear what you think of the song once you do check it out

@ Melissa - it was bound to happen :p Glad you liked the song though!

@ Phil - you know you love me :D

@ Alex - awesome to hear you dug it!

@ Brittany - not sure where you mighta heard them from - I believe I happened upon their myspace page randomly last year

    @ Hailey - heh, awesome :p

@ Heather - haha, she'll always be pretty... and yeah, Phil just loves that :)

@ Faye - yeah, Twilight is one of my favorites, but this song (as I was telling Phil) has to be my favorite MOTW - I don't know why, but I can (and have) listen to it over and over without ever tiring!

I am officially de-lurking hahaha. I absolutly love the song and the lyrics are awesome, but truthfully I thought your story was kinda cheesy.

    @ Mikey - thanks!

@ Emilykh - glad you de-lurked, even if just to say that the story was cheesy :p

Oddly enough, reading it again, I realized I used way too many cliches - I think I rushed through it a little, but I tend to be an organized stream-of-consciousness writer, which means that I collect my thoughts as I'm writing, but I write in one go :D

I really enjoyed listening to the song. Lately all I listen to is SF, so it was nice for a change. Not that there's anything wrong with listening to SF all the time. LOL....

BTW, I have been a major lurker... But I won't do it anymore... I even got an account at google to be able to post comments here... Well, Thanks for posting the song. It was awesome!

    First comment on a MOTW.

Way toooooo cheesy......but you know what? I love it.
Loved the music, loved the lyrics, loved his voice, AND loved your story.
ugh, too much l.o.v.e. in this post.
Weird. I have this kinda weakness when it comes to super-cheesy things.
    tehe
    Good job Arpit!

Oh dear. I'm breaking down. I have a strict, no iTunes music purchasing agreement with myself, because I have major issues with DRM of any kind...but...I want that EP...and I want it now...

    Dang you Arpit. DANG YOU.
    But i love you.

@Arpit Yep I do believe I came across their myspace...that fits!!!

AND I previosly didn't comment about how cheesy the story was...and it is....but the hopeless romantic in me is just going awwww!!

    @ Susy - welcome, and thanks :)

@ Rinni - awesome! I tend to have this love-hate relationship with cheesiness - I love it when done right, and hate it when someone messes up on the punchline :p

@ Alex - hahaha, yeah the EP is only on iTunes as far as I've seen - even checked Amazon, but nada. What you could do is buy it, burn it, and re-rip it, and poof, DRM is gone! :D

@ Brittany - glad you figured it out, and thanks :)

*giggles uncontrolably, leans back in chair, howls with unrestrained mirth until the tears stream down her cheeks* arpit, i just love you, you're such a romantic! ok so i can't lie, the story was a leetle cheezy, but hey, it matched the song perfectly! i mean serious music video material here!

i just read the numerous comments and gasped, were you writing from personal experience mr. mehta? ooohhh la la!! just kidding just kidding!

hey arpit, maybe do an motw that's more rockish, you've kinda stuck to softer ballads and such.

  • At May 24, 2007 7:16:00 PM PDT, Blogger Arpit Mehta said…

@ Alex - yeah, I know... I hate doing those time to time for blogging reasons - mostly, I just get music from emusic, so it works out.

    @ Stonewall10 - haha, thanks!

@ Adam Sams - welcome! Yeah, they definitely have a great sound to them.

@ Rachel - I'll give em a listen, and welcome!

@ Emylene - glad you enjoyed both!

@ Sarah - haha, I'm just a writer, so I tend to rely on my imagination a lot. Although that would've been awesome to go through, it was but a story :D

@ Rose - well, the mainstream rock sound is something I absolutely abhor (with some exceptions)... if that's what you're hoping for, it's not really my thing... but if you wanna list a few bands that you like, then maybe I can go off that...

I thought the song was innocently amazing. It's simple and adorable and I'm really excited that you're doing the motw cause purevolume has been slow lately and this is the next best thing. :D. now, that story was a nice piece of writing. since I am hopelessly cheesy and cliche, I can fully appreciate the story and intent behind it and the cheese dripping from it. SPING.

I also have heard this song before, and I just don't remember where or why... I like it, the chorus is super-catchy, and I'm a sucker for super-catchy things.

The story was a bit cheesy, but it fits well with the song. ;) nice job, as usual, Arpit!

I just discovered this site, and I think the MotW feature is great--but is there any chance you might reupload some of the older ones? They all sound like really great songs that I'd love to try out, but everything past the Future of Forestry song (except the Starflyer 59 songs, which thrilled me, because I'm kind of a new fan of theirs) isn't available anymore.

@Arpit, Nono, I don't mean mainstream, I detest mainstream. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of MOTW anyway? - What about Reeve Oliver, This Holiday Life, MuteMath, The Dimes...not necessarily those, because I know most sf fans have heard of them, but I meant Indie Rock.
