Namaste, fams. Took a day off yesterday to design our MySpace with Cassie - we're excited to launch it soon. Got some more things to set straight--y'see, we're trying to combat MySpace's terrible sense of design, and hopefully make the best we can out of it and bring you a page you can stand looking at.
Meanwhile, here's what's been filling up my clipboard, thanks to the day off...
Jon appears in this pretty sweet video with his friends from the band Reeve Oliver. Thanks, Lori.
Switchfoot's latest live-on-video performance was at AT&T's Blue Room. It also includes an interview. Watch here and be amazed (click on "live performances" then on "Switchfoot"). Thanks, *star_gazer*.
LOBH/Michelle posted MP3s of the performances & interview:
lowercase people's Bandfarm store has a few new tees out. Go grab.
A while ago we'd posted a video exclusive with lyrics, of Jon performing a previously-unheard song called "Somebody's Baby", which he introduced thus:
"I saw this woman this one night and she was brushing her teeth, [she was] this homeless lady down by the beach, and I was walking on the beach late at night. And I remember thinking that brushing your teeth when you're homeless must be a real act of hope, and a real act of courage, y'know: just the fact that there's--you're gonna make it through the night and--the need to take care of your teeth, y'know? And I just remembered thinking to myself, um, y'know it kind of bothered me all night and, that's when I wrote this song."
Heart-wrenching stuff. A lot of you have been asking for an MP3 of the video, and I never got around to it... well, until now. Thanks for the latest reminder, Sobe. If there's something you're looking for or something I'd promised but haven't got around to posting, feel free to remind me (unless it's the "Revenge" post... which is on top of my mind, and I'll post it once I'm done with a few projects I'm working on.) Anyway, download the MP3 of "Somebody's Baby" here. (right-click and "save target as...")
Also, from the 2003 concert we posted a few days ago, remember the song "24" was missing? Well, Dunny wrote to us in the comments section and hooked us up with the song, as well as 3 other tracks that were missing at the end of the bootleg (that I didn't know of)! Thanks so much, Dunny. Here they are, right-click and "save target as..."
i tryied listening to "Somebodys Baby," but it was just a clanging noise..not the best song ive ever heard ;-) but, that new Switchfoot bootleg was cool.
hhhmm that download of "Somebody's Baby" didn't work for me.... its just staticky noise or "dundundunduns" haha idk how to describe it. I REALLY wanna hear this song, can someone help??
I did not think that Jon singing as Jesus was bizarre. I am loving that song right now. It tells a story in such a beautiful and poetic way that I really don't mind that it is 11 minutes long. I think Jon's part was tear-jerking. Love it...that is why I'm exited about Relient K on tour with Swft...I really want Deathbed to be played.
So, yeah. I couldn't get the mp3 for Somebody's Baby to work either. And it's such a cool song, too.
I love Jon's voice on Deathbed. Just the perfect way to end the song. I find myself holding my breath through the ending because it's kind of a transcendent moment. Matt K. painted such a beautiful picture of grace with that song.
I'll be seeing Relient K and switchfoot back to back this summer at Creation Northeast. I'll be sure to report back and let you guys know what we may be able to look forward to for the fall tour.
Who's hogging up the comment section? Oh, that would be me! Sorry!
Two more things... Don't know if you guys have covered it here or not since I just became aware of the site in March, but Jon sings with Sean Watkins on Sean's song "Run Away Girl". It's on Sean's CD and on his myspace. Really great stuff.
AND... New tour dates posted? Coolio! Too bad it's half a world away, but hooray for our Australian friends!
I did'nt really think Jon on "deathbed" was bizarre, I was just very surprised at first, but I love the song, and Jon's singing on it. it's such a beautiful song.
Thanks for the updates today. I love Somebody's baby. I don't think Jon singing as Jesus was bizarre, I really loved it. I just think trying to sing as the voice of Jesus would be a challenging thing to do, but Jon did a really amazing job with it.
WOW!!! I just finished listening to the song 'Deathbed' by Relient K. What a beautiful song! It really brought me to tears. Jon at the end as Jesus was just amazing. Not bizarre at all. Just the perfect way to end it. I love it!
Wow too! I thought the review on punknews.org thinks, was good. Now I'm more interested in Relient K. I thought it was objective... Although, the "bizarre" comment might as well be just as bizarre, if not more. ;D
Yeah, Somebody's Baby isn't working, I went to listen to it and I was like, Uuh...is this the whole song? I didn't actually listen to it when I downloaded it, it was just before I went to bed. I can deal with listening to th video for now though.
where the heck is this Somebodys Baby video anyways? i never saw it. but the song sounds totally amazing, so if anyone knows if its on switchfeed or anything...
I love that song (Somebody's Baby). I wish the mp3 worked for me though.
I think Jon made a good Jesus voice. He really pulled it off well. Sure it may seem strange that he would sing as Jesus since in his own songs, he rarely talks about Jesus, but I think it was good that he branched off from the normal.
So Yeah, I agree that the whole "Jon-as-Jesus" thing was a little weird. But the song was good (if not a bit out of the box) and I don't see anything particularly wrong with what it (or Jon) did.
Somebody's Baby mp3!!! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!
And yay about those missing songs from the 2003 performance. :D
