"Burn Out Bright" (acoustic); a "very special" interview, etc.

Hello friends. It's your Switchfoot blog host Phil, with today's dose of kerosene and electric sparks. An acoustic version, that is.

Jill, my buddy who runs Ears to Hear, a lovely little indie-music podcast (she also helps with our "mp3 of the week" column over at switchfeed.com), has been somehow deluded into thinking I'm famous, and that I should be interviewed. So, when she suggested the idea, it sounded like fun and I went all "let's do it!" Then I realized she was being serious, and half an hour later I was on the phone giving an interview! Besides being unprepared, I was excited and nervous (which tends to make me ramble-y). Anyway, check out the interview if you like listening to some guy share his blog's story in a weird accent. But, much less boring, she plays "Burn Out Bright (acoustic)" on the show - the track that's exclusive to those who buy "Oh! Gravity." from Best Buy, which is where I bought my copy from. AMAZING acoustic rendition. I think I like it better than the album version, but maybe that's just me. So head over to Ears to Hear and check out the podcast - I've shared some blogthings I haven't shared in public before (listen to the whole thing - great music, especially the 'Future of Forestry' track after the interview). iRecommend: subscribe to Ears to Hear on iTunes.

I wanted to thank those of you who've been a great support from the inception of this blog, after "burn out bright" played, but then Jill didn't put me on the show after that! boo. Thanks Jill, for being so awesome. And all of you, for reading these words I type.

PS 1: If anyone has special blog-designing skills (Wordpress or something) and lots of time, please email me, I could probably use your help for a couple upcoming projects. Including any links to blogs you've designed would be helpful.

PS 2: Some of you have complained that since the blog went official, you haven't got to see much of my writings/ramblings - just Switchfoot news. While I'm touched that you'd miss those posts, I apologize - it's just a phase, promise. I shall be back to my writing ways soon. Meanwhile, if you'd let me shamelessly plug something I wrote yesterday, visit this extremely insightful thread on the lp boards. So much fun to explore questions like what separates good art from not-so-good art? What are the criteria by which we make such judgements?

PS 3: Many of you love the band "Mute Math" (they've toured with Switchfoot in the recent past, and are featured in a "conversation" on the current issue of lowercasepeople), so I thought I'd point out that they've scored the theme for the "Transformers" movie - listen at their MySpace.

Mute Math is awesome. Great live band. Just got to see Future of Foresty last month at the cornerstone festival in Orlando. Another band to check out is called Soular.

Actually, I think your accent is quite "Canadianized." It's cool to match a voice to the words I've been reading on a screen for the last 5 months.

If I may make a suggestion about this "further integration with switchfoot.com" ... make sure that some sections remain exclusive to sfeed. :) After all, the people who were faithful readers before this debut should have a portion of sfeed to ourselves.

Lastly, I'm looking forward to more thought-provoking posts from you ... as well as some promised posts that are LONG overdue. :)

:( the podcast won't work for me...

I love Burn Out Bright acoustic, and I think I like it better than the album version too, as awesome as that is. Acoustic it's just amazing though...now I've got to listen to it right now.

    hahah thanks guys.
yeah, the "i emailed jon, and tim replied" line is the worst case of precis-writing. i wanted to shorten a long story: jon had given me his email after the vancouver, so I could email him some stuff for the next issue of lowercasepeople. but i didn't have tim's email. so.

    @faye
haha yeah there's definitely a canadian influence on it.
and your points are noted. thanks. as for the "promised posts", i feel terrible about not keeping a promise, and can't wait to remedy this. sucks that a day has only 24 hours... but can't wait to get those out to you.

thanks again all you kind people.

@ nat - I think I know what was wrong with the podcast; there was a problem with the feed. It should work beautifully now. :)

  • At June 12, 2007 11:37:00 PM PDT, Anonymous nat said…

The podcast still won't work for me (from the Australian iTunes), that direct mp3 link didn't either. The Ears to Hear site is now opening for me (it didn't yesterday) however the podcast will not play - that is to say it's been buffering for 5 minutes.

  • At June 13, 2007 5:13:00 AM PDT, Blogger Jill said…

hmm... i'm not sure what the problem is then. if you want to email me (jill@earstohearpodcast.com) some technical info (ie. what browser/operating system you use), i'll try to figure out why it isn't working. or if worse comes to worse and you really want to hear it, i could always just send you the file directly. :)

Jill - The podcast is working today, it's downloading now...can't wait to hear this accent that seems to be such a hot topic...

I like that podcast Jill, and so far I like the music you've been playing. I'll be a regular listener now, I love finding out about new music :)

I would say Phil's accent is more Indian but it's been weakened by a bit of the canadian accent, it's pretty cool though.
