| MOTW #23: Tyler James - Stay Humble |
In a society where music tends to define much of the culture, and often not in the best way, Tyler James simply puts forth a request to us (and himself): Stay Humble.
Though he may look like he's 14, he astounds everyone that sees him live with his sound. Not only is his voice much more mature than would be apparent, his lyrics show a maturity that is outstanding in today's culture. In addition to his words, the instrumentation on the track is just as great. Piano driven pop-rockish vocals coupled with his vocals and lyrics... I mean what else could one ask for?
My comfort and my glory are shaken when I see That my life’s not a story about me Stay humble, humble, humble...
It's just straightforward, and that's what I love about it! So check out the song, and if you like it, I recommend grabbing his 5-song EP from iTunes... so worth the money!

Full Lyrics: It’s for your own, it’s for your own goodness sake It’s for your own protection from steps that you might take I’m selfish, there I said it It scares me when I see that I can’t deny what comes so naturally
Stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble, humble Stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble...
It’s for your own, it’s for your own clear view It’s for your own efforts to hold on to what’s true My comfort and my glory are shaken when I see That my life’s not a story about me
Stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble, humble Stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble...
Would someone please Awaken me from my sleep, from my sleep Would someone please Awaken me from my sleep, from my sleep
If you would wipe the sleep from my eyes … I’ve been asleep (5x)
Stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble, humble Stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble...
I’m trying to stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble, humble Stay humble, humble, humble Stay humble...

I had the distinct honor of recording with Tyler a year or so ago, and just wanted to vouch not only for his incredible musical ability, but also for his absolute fantastic attitude and personality. He was SUCH a blast to hang out with and make music with!
If you like what you hear via Tyler, be sure to also check out Aaron Roche, one of his close friends and another artist I recorded with in Nashville...

@ Frank - glad you liked it!
@ Becca - thanks!
@ Rose - it did come from him, and he's not 12 :D
@ Brittany - I know! A friend of mine saw him live last week, and when he first came out, my friend thought it was a joke, until he started singing :)
@ Nathan - thank ya! Glad you're enjoying it!
@ K.C - no way! That's great - will have to check out Roche sometime!

Nice pick, Arpit. I've heard the song before, but I don't remember where. Now that I know who he is, I can listen to more!

I'm sad there hasn't been any MOTW for quite a while--you always turn up some great songs (I was thrilled to see Explosions in the Sky, since I've been a fan for a while, and I can't thank you enough for introducing me to Margot and the Nuclear So & So's; they're absolute genius).
