Yay from Australia and Philippines.

Hello footfolks. I just watched a fairly good quality cam-video of "On Fire" from the recent Australia tour (at this blog) and I think it's one of my all-time favourite SF videos of that variety. For some reason it took me back to when I first fell in love with Switchfoot's music, and I kind of went through that feeling all over again as I watched it. Be moved...

I shall not delve into the why of my week of absence (as Vicky had it covered) except I have a "do not try this at home" piece of advise for ya'll: be very very sure of what you're doing if you ever take 23 credits in a university semester. Moving on...

It was interesting to see you guys' mixed reactions to the "Amateur Lovers" cover I posted last time with the question "yay or nay?" So what do I think? Yay all the way. I think they made a great, bold choice in covering Switchfoot, and not just that, in picking "Amateur Lovers" of all songs. Two thumbs up to the youth group band for an energetic effort that sought to give a fresh treatment to the song. Yay, and again I say yay. (Okay, I'll admit I'm just enjoying the sound of that word. yay.)

Our Filipino friends across the pond recently witnessed a rare occurrence of cosmic proportions. Naturally, they were blown away. I've selected three blogs about it for your reading pleasure. The first one's written by Tina, one of the girls in the Street Team that hosted the band (I love the poster - wish I could have a copy!) The second one is here, and besides describing the incident on stage when Jerome got the guys to eat a Filipino delicacy called balut (an egg with an unborn chick inside. ...something so hardcore many Filipinos themselves wouldn't dare eat it), it includes pictures, like these:

And Jon's black t-shirt is rad.

The third one has some sweeet pictures (check it out!), three of which I've sampled below:

Lastly, and I think this is an amazing find: a very recent radio interview with Jon and Chad in Australia. Listen/download here. It features an acoustic performance of "Awakening" at the end. And there were some really wise things said in there that I would love to have in text. Let's see. Alright, later amigos.

That is a pretty sweet video of On Fire. I love that song.

and I can't belive they ate balut...I think I heard Chad was the only one that actually finished it. I think I'm with those many Filipinos that wouldn't dare eat it though.

One of the most amazing things I've been to, ever. It was a great night to be inspired! To be "on fire" as it were. I hope it's not the last I see of them (and maybe someday I can thank them for what a positive influence they've been in my life). Well, the albums (I hope) will keep coming..

Gosh, this post makes me so homesick I want to cry - Fort Santiago, Cuneta, SM Mall, Shangrila. How I miss it all.

I'm so glad that all you Pinoys had a great time!

Please come back!!! Let me know if you want the entire Philippines to go do some begging because a lot of people want to see more of you.

    God bless!!!

Welcome back Phil, though I don't really think you were gone too terribly long!! However your posts are much appreciated! I just wanted to comment in an attempt to sympathize with you. College is hard, and life is busy because of it. Though that being said my busy of 16 credit hours seems to pale in comparision to yours. Along with the fact that I'm not redoing a website. That has to add so much more stress on to it all.
Though I will say that I am busy between college, work(i'm trying to work as much as I can, but since I commute to college and have to commute back to work, I'm lacking in hours!), and helping run a youth group at my church, and finally taking care of my mom. (she has cancer, so my family and I have to do a lot of stuff regarding that) So I figure you're doing much more work than I, but I'm guessing your wishing for more hours in the day right along with me.
Hang in there Phil! I'm sure we can survive this experience they call college!!

@arpit- he's not wearing it in any of the pics I used in the blog, but if you click the link to see the rest, you'll find it. ;)

@brittany- thanks! yes, we can do this...let's hang in there. my bio teacher in highschool used to say "what you put into your studies is what you get out of it". i'm trying to use that to motivate myself. :)

@emily- no way! 23.5 is crazy. I thought I was the only crazy one. and yes, check out the interview, it's fab. peeeace.

    Phil,

I know what you are going through with taking a lot of classes. Last semester I signed up for 8 classes because they all looked interesting, and I just collapsed under the pressure. I didn't show up for some classes, wasn't able to focus on my work, it was a mess. Then I'm back to school, full of anxiety because my confidence was badly shaken. I went to my guidance counselor who helped me get rid of some negative feelings, and tell me how to contact my two professors who gave me incompletes so I wouldn't get F's(seeing that word on my transcript made me think of Switchfoot's Incomplete song). If the workload becomes too much, then I recommend lighting it so you won't end up like me. God bless, and good luck.

Great post, and excellent video. "On Fire" has meant more and more to me as I've grown older.

@EVERY Switchfoot fan out there: I put up an online petition for Switchfoot and Relient K requesting they perform "Deathbed" on their upcoming concert tour.

You can read and sign it via the link: http://www.petitiononline.com/4thesong/petition.html

It would be an amazing thing to hear this 11-minute epic live! :-)

Can't wait to have them back here again, and hopefully they'd stay longer so we can bring them surfing or something. :D

    Take care!
