MTV Asia reviews Singapore show
In town for the first time, San Diego's Switchfoot is one band that you have to witness live to believe their prowess. Whether they are a secular act or not, that's not the point for debate. For sure they wear their faith proudly on their sleeves, but Switchfoot is a band that aims to deliver a rock show blending a wide mélange of musical style from classic rock, to blues, to sound rock and more, and they will never fail at that. Jon Foreman is also a royally consummate front man who connects with the crowd at all levels of intimacy. The venue, Max Pavilion, is built like a huge warehouse but for this very night, it's a huge living room for the band and the fans.

And Switchfoot didn't save any fire power for the last too. After kicking off the set with "Oh! Gravity.", the band immediately went into "Stars" taken off their 2005 album Nothing Is Sound. Seemingly, the latest crowd favorites had been played. What could be next? As they blazed through their old hits mixed with the new, the band's gripping presence was simply mesmerizing. On stage was a band so comfortable with themselves and each other that they could intertwine and interact based on instinct alone. When it was time to rock out and "f*ck things up," Switchfoot tore down the stage, be it with the old favorite "Chem 6A," "Dirty Second Hands," or Gone" where they mischievously segued in and out with Beyonce's "Crazy In Love." During "American Dream," the entire band froze in motion for a good couple of minutes. You would have thought only The Hives could pull off such a stage antic but obviously, Switchfoot could equally deliver fun as well.

Im confused. Was if Jon who said "f*ck things up," or some one else? Not very Jon-like, I agree.

chill out, Philemon just QUOTED a review MTV Asia posted. did you guys even see the link?? Nobody seemed to notice or comment on how good the review was, but there's 5 comments on the f word! sheesh. get over it.

The reviewer could have misheard Jon, or it could be the reviewer's own words. And as unlikely as it may be, even if Jon actually said that, I don't see the big deal about it. Grow up.

I think Jon's recent myspace blog would be good here...This doesn't apply to Somebody's Baby but it does apply to profanity. Did he say that or not? I don't know, but this might help with determining that.

Hey, I'm Benjamin. with a band H. You and Switchfoot are a huge inspiration to us. I saw in your song "Somebody's baby girl" you wrote, "She yells if you were homeless sure as hell you'd be drunk. " I know you're a Christian and I just wanted to know your views on profanity.
    God bless,
    Benjamin.- H.
    p. s. Not to be legalistic. I just want to know.

    Hi benjamin,

thanks so much for an honest question. I respect the honesty and want to answer honestly. As a fellow believer who's attempting to follow christ, thank you so much for not picking up verbal rocks to throw at me to mark our differences! FIrst off, I'm still figuring this stuff out. I know amazing truth-seeking men and women that have filthy mouths but most of my heros choose their words carefully.

I try and keep things clean for my own conscience. (My grandma listens to this stuff, you know! and so do little kids...) And because I view these songs as a way to serve others, I take the words I choose very seriously.
